Changing Borders: Shifting Responsibilities?

The diversity of this subject will make it an interesting topic to discuss for internationalists. Diverse subjects such as international law, border conflicts and sovereignty are among the ever-changing dilemma’s surrounding International Relations. 

To what extent will the traditional sovereignty-agenda be influenced by international organizations at a global and regional level? Debordering and border setting are implemented as a solution in international conflicts, showing that borders are as important today as they have been the last four centuries since the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. The relationship between sovereignty, international law and international organizations will be increasingly important the coming decades. 

Furthermore, globalization in economics and international cooperation in politics will change the concept of borders. This makes this theme a highly suitable subject of Clio’s 2012 Conference.

Dit is de studievereniging voor studenten Internationale Betrekkingen en Internationale Organisatie van de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen.

Clio is opgericht in 1988 onder de naam Club van de Studie Beleid en Bestuur in de Internationale Organisaties. Deze studie was toen nog een postpropedeutische studie van de opleiding Geschiedenis. In 2003 werd het karakter van de studie veranderd van een ‘bovenbouwstudie’ naar een reguliere bacheloropleiding. Vanaf dat moment begonnen er ieder jaar 400 tot 500 studenten met de studie Internationale Organisaties en Internationale Betrekkingen. Vanwege de grote belangstelling voor de studie IBIO is Clio één van de grotere studieverenigingen in Groningen, met een ledenaantal van bijna 1200.
